Wisdom of the Woods - Bears

Updated: Dec 17, 2020

A mother bear and her 3 cubs peacefully graze under a tree. This She Bear is a reminder to renew our understanding about how to live in this world and how to awaken our conscious body and spirit.

2020 has been the year of the bear for me and my partner. We have seen them throughout Asheville and had several adventures with them visiting our campsite. Their presence is unmistakable and felt 15-20 minutes prior to their arrival. Their field effect changes the state to magical and energetically thick. Something so deep in my core spirit awoke from being in their presence. There was a primal energy deep in me that had never been awoken until our encounters with the bears.

My first reaction was fright, then I moved into a deep calm. I then moved into a profound aliveness and awareness while still feeling the fear but at a distance. I could feel the bear's energy and mine interacting but without words. I felt they were not there to harm me but were simply making their way through a shared space.

In recalling the meaning of Black Bear symbolism, they represent introspection. In particular, the Bear meaning is letting you know that it is time to go inward and explore the notion of your very existence. Therefore, with this spirit animal, you must delve deep into your heart to find the significance of your path and journey.

Seeing these bears along side the road with her cubs, reminded me to consider my children and to introspect on my existence and interactions between us. Going through the changes in the world has been a challenge for my kids. I took this time to check in with my kids and ask if they felt protected, supported, safe, free of fear, and free from to move forward in their worlds free from harm. This was a profound conversation and it is in motion as we continue to face unprecedented change. These bears were our reminder that not only do I need to feel safe and secure that my kids do too.
